"Tango es el momento en donde dos personas se atreven a comunicarse sin palabras, a expresarse un sentiment solo con un abrazo, una mirada."

"Tango is the moment when two people communicate without words to express a feeling with just an embrace, a glance." - Virginia Pandolfi

Dear Tango Friend,

September and October were fantastic months for PATIO de TANGO and Tango aficionados... with the tour of Fabián Peralta and Virginia Pandolfi, our 6th Birthday Party, the 6th 'Milonga Para Los Niños' and so many other great Tango events.

And now we head off to the Aerolineas Argentinas NZ Tango Congress and then onto Buenos Aires! We thank Aerolineas Argentinas for sponsoring our flight to the Congress.

Excerpts from recent posts in two of Sydney's Tango forums...

"Virginia and Fabián really focused on the 'life' in dancing that drives various elements of Tango dancing. They touched on Elegance, Musicality... Techniques... Elegant, but down to earth. Refined, but personal. Traditional, but creative... It was truly eye opening.

They demonstrated that we do not need to drop one to pick up the other. Their presence was a bridge between our passion of dancing and the quality of dancing. Big congratulations to Virginia and Fabián.

The last night (Sunday at Marrickville) was amazing. I feel sorry for those who missed it." (AR)

***

"I was thrilled by the truly professional performance that was inspiring and captivating. I could not take my eyes off Fabián and Virginia for one moment.

Fabián and Virginia were connected to each other and to the floor and engaged the audience, all at the same time. I did not see any cliché stage moves, for what they showed was just the best Tango that we social dancers can aspire to and achieve." (June Es)

"To those who knew our Robyn living mostly in Buenos Aires, and who launched her book at the Perth Tango Club last year, it is with regret that news has come of Robyn Ash Rose's death in Buenos Aires in September from her friend Carmen Venerandi. She is survived by her son Darrien in Perth and otherwise family in Sydney. May she be at peace."

(This message was received from Perth Tango Club. Robyn is the author of 'Better Times in Buenos Aires').

Sydney's 6th MILONGA PARA LOS NIÑOS - 7/10/07

It was a wonderful night with a mesmerising charity performance by Fabián and Virginia - the culmination of their successful tour of NZ and Australia.

Over $2,600 was raised on the night for Sociedad Para Los Niños, which does great work assisting disadvantaged youth and children in Argentina. The main recipients are two projects on the outskirts of Buenos Aires:

1) Grupo Juvenil Nuevo Horizonte: a farm established to take in street kids to teach them organic farming techniques and protect them from drugs and the vices of the streets. Grupo Nuevo Horizonte de Juvenil is officially incorporated and recognised by the Moreno & Argentine governments and is a not for profit organisation.

2) Los Horneros foster home and day centre for children run by Association Civil los Horneros. The land for the foster home was provided by the government under similar conditions to that provided to Grupo Juvenil.

What particularly attracts us to this charity is it's practical, long term approach of "teach them how to fish - don't just give them fish". There is much we could say about the good results and accountabiliy of SPLN. Sophia is happy to pass on detailed information at your request.

We plan to visit Los Horneros and Grupo Juvenil with Hugo and Valentina whilst in Buenos Aires.

 TANGO TID BITS . . .

This documentary from the ABC series 'Race Around the World' has inspired quite a few people to learn Argentine Tango. Make sure you watch it till the end.

What makes a good Tango shoe? http://www.loksze.com/thoughts/category/other/

Tango in the movies: As you may have heard, Sandra Bullock is starring in the film “Kiss and Tango”, based on a memoir by Marina Palmer about an American advertising executive who moved to Buenos Aires to find love amidst the jungle of Tango dancing.

And Shakira will star in “Dare to Love Me” - a film about Argentinian singer Carlos Gardel’s love affairs during the 1920s, that left him with a bullet in his body. To be directed by Alfonso Arau in English, the cast includes Paz Vega and Rodrigo Santoro. The film is expected to be released later this year.

Looks like the banks are taking notice of Tango…

Note that Tango rates pretty highly: Number 3. And even gets a second mention - at number 15!
