Dear Tango Friend,

SO MUCH TANGO, so little time to write! For the past few months we've been too busy tangoing and touring to attend to our (usually monthly) Newsletter; so this one spans four months and catches up with lots of Tango news.

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO . . .

Performing, teaching and DJ'ing in Perth (Perth Tango Club) from 25 - 28 July. This will be our first visit to Perth as guest teachers and we are looking forward to meeting and dancing with the local Tangueros.

Our monthly Saturday Milongas... The next Milonga will be on the 2nd Saturday of the month on June 14 (not our usual '1st Saturday') and at a different venue (Randwick Labour Club instead of the usual venue at Club Rose Bay). There will be Tango performances on the night.

Our July 5 Milonga... featuring LIVE MUSIC with 'TANGO BAR' (back by popular demand) at Club Rose Bay. See 'Milongas' section for details.

OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS WE'VE ENJOYED . . .

Performing, teaching and DJ'ing at the NZ Tango Festival in Wellington from 22 to 25 May. Guest teachers from Buenos Aires included Carlos & Maria Rivarola, Graciela Gonzales and Gisela Galeassi & Gaspar Godoy. Visit www.nztangofestival.co.nz Report and photos coming out in next Newsletter.

Teaching and performing in Adelaide (9 - 11 May) for Siempre Tango. See HIGLIGHTS section for more on the Adelaide experience, which included a Milonga at a vineyard and a delicious BBQ 'rioplatense style'!

RECENT TANGO HIGHLIGHTS

1st March...
Nick Jones & Tara Fortier were performing at our popular Rose Bay Saturday Milonga.

Adelaide:  May 9 - 11  This was the third time we've run workshops for 'Siempre Tango' in Adelaide, and we have enjoyed each visit greatly. Many thanks to the enthusiastic dancers and students who attended the workshops and events, and especially to our hosts Megan and Ben. The highlight for us was the Saturday Milonga at the Lloyd family's which is at the Coriole Vineyard in McLaren Vale. A wonderful asado was prepared by Rafael Correa. You can view photos of the event here.

Reflection on a Tango Journey by John Mann

"MORE YEARS AGO THAN I care to remember, I was listening to 'Django Reinhardt' playing some Argentine Tangos. I was immediately captured by the emotion and feeling in that music.

Those feelings must have remained deep in my subconscious, because a couple of years ago I woke up one day with the desire to learn the Tango.

A quick 'google' on the net, a 'select' of PATIO de TANGO's website and the journey had started.

A journey that begun with the desire to explore the dance, accompanied by the music which Django played all those years ago with such virtuosity.

Dedicated dancers carry themselves differently to us mere mortals. When they move they are balanced, centred and 'feel' the music. Pedro and Sophia demonstrated the Tango at the start of my first beginners class exhibiting the attributes of dedicated dancers.

As I watched them both move gracefully around the dance floor - Pedro focused on leading and Sophia, eyes closed with a gentle smile on her face, moving effortlessly to his lead - I knew that this was the dance for me.

Since that first lesson I've discovered that there's no final destination at which point one has 'learned' the Tango. It's the journey that is important. It's being in the present and accepting the wonderful feeling at that moment where one's knowledge of the dance, the emotion of the music and the woman in your arms all combine to become the magic that is Tango."

A New Tango Movie
by our friend Carla...

"I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE to preview Carla Thackrah's  new movie  'The Tango Moment' (working title).

Carla, a Sydney local, follows the experience of the 2007 Australian Stage Tango Champions during the World Championship in Buenos Aires, giving an insight into 'the elusive glow' which hits so many when dancing in BA."
