Tango in the streets of Buenos Aires. We’re back from a Tango-packed seven week stay in Buenos Aires which was a wonderful time to re-connect with the Tango scene at the centre of the Tango world.

So many fabulous dancers, afternoon and night milongas until dawn, tango shoes to die for, dancing in the streets and in the salons… dancing to live music …Tango music in taxis, on TV and the radio… Tango wherever you turn… a Tango Nirvana! We have lots of stories to tell and are looking forward to sharing what we experienced with our Tango students.

Many thanks to wonderful Edgard and Emily for running PATIO de TANGO while we were away. They’ve done a great job!

The consul of Argentina, Pedro Colombi, is actively promoting May 2005 as the Month of Argentina. Expect lots of publicity in the media for all things Argentinian, including of course Tango! It’s certainly an eventful month for Tango lovers, with the arrival of the Estampas Porteñas show and the Sydney International Tango Festival.

To find out how you can win double passes to the Sydney International Tango Festival and Spanish Film Festival Closing Gala, and a PATIO de TANGO CD (a great CD we picked up in BA - the name is coincidental) read on…

”Have you ever tried Tango? This is not just a dance, it is a real experience, a celebration! Being a dedicated salsa and merengue dancer, I had never been really into Tango, it seemed a bit aloof, too sophisticate! …I brought along my partner and joined the early class taught by Pedro… To my surprise was a mixture of dancers from all ages and background and I was hooked really quickly on the passion and elegance of this dance that had seemed to me so difficult to tackle. It's all about fluidity, connection, far more freedom of movements and creativity that I thought!! I really encourage anyone to start dancing Tango, even if you are a dedicated salsa dancer! I am going on for further lessons now!! “  - Radio journalist France Arnaud of Latinos FM

“Dear Pedro and Sophia - As a Uruguayan, Tango has always been part of my life in a semi-quiet way, but now, thanks to you, it's awake... can't ignore it anymore!
Your teaching style is very organized, clear, exact and patient. I really like how you break down all the parts and steps and then put them all together. Whenever I had a question you made yourself available and took the time to be sure I understood. I got the feeling you are very sincere in your desire to actually teach people and not just figures.
You always go for the extra mile of making sure that each and every student past or present have a good time. There is also that personal touch/connection which makes present students stay and past student come back.”  - Marianna Chiazarro

WEDDING TANGO

It’s not surprising that Tango is becoming so popular at Sydney weddings. It truly is the dance of love.

Roebyen and Adam had a series of private lessons with us in preparation for their “Bridal Tango”. We helped them select their music and choreographed a 3 minute piece that everyone said was the highlight of the night! We got quite emotional seeing them dance in the last lesson, such conexión and sentimiento!

April 29 - International Dance Day, UNESCO
www.iti-worldwide.org

Every year UNESCO circulates a message world-wide from a well-known dance personality. The aim is to celebrate the art form and revel in its universality, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together in peace and friendship with a common language - DANCE. This year’s Artist for Peace in 2005 is Japanese ballerina Miyako YOSHIDA:

“Dance is exclusive to no one.
It grants joy and elation to all that partake or spectate.
The language of dance knows no boundaries.
It reaches beyond class, education, country and belief.
Its vocabulary is infinite, as human emotion
resonates through movement.
Dance enriches the soul and uplifts the spirit.
Dance lives within all that live.
Let all the children dance and peace shall surely follow.”

As always and until we dance, un abrazo tanguero. . .
