This is going to be an amazing month for lovers of Tango. Read on for more details on Tango (and related) treats ahead . . . The Sydney Film Festival is the premiere film event of the year and takes place from June 10 - 25. This year debuts the New Argentine Cinema strand which has a broad array of styles and themes. Argentina is now recognised as one of the strongest filmmaking nations in Latin America - and indeed the world.

World Tango Championship
2005 In June, Tango communities across Australia, with the support of the Consulate General of Argentina, will start the selection process
The event’s aim is “to promote the practice and enjoyment of Tango in Australia… make a valuable contribution to the increasingly vibrant local Tango scene …give Australia more prominence on the international Tango map… working on a non-profit basis with the sole financial objective being to cover costs.” (Consulate General of Argentina) From 24 June to 9 July there will be selection rounds at various Sydney Milongas, including PATIO de TANGO’s Milonga on July 2. The national selection event in Sydney on Sunday, 17 July will include the final selection of one couple to compete in the “Salon Tango” category in Buenos Aires and the single round leading to the selection of one couple to represent Australia in the “Stage Tango” category. Presented by visual artist Pavane Oliveira An eclectic mix of exquisite music from around the world including Nuevo Tango, Fado, Flamenco, earthy and stirring female vocals (most notably in Tango), Hindustani classical & contemporary music, Gamelan …to name a few. The last Friday of each month brings a special 'Last Tango' to air reflecting the host’s love of Astor Piazzolla and the Nuevo Tango sound.
SABOR! On 2RDJ 88.1 FM - The Sounds of the Inner West SABOR! covers Spanish and Latin American music, culture and social events of people from these backgrounds living in Australia. Interviews are conducted in English with music in Spanish and English. The program will include segments on Argentine Tango with input from PATIO de TANGO. LATINOS FM 107.3fm This Latin radio magazine broadcasts in English and Spanish, every Saturday from 5 to 7 pm around NSW on 107.3 fm (2 SER FM) and across Australia and the world on www.latinosfm.com Originally focusing on salsa music, it has started to add more Tango.
