The start of the New Year has been sadly marred by the Tsunami. It’s shocked us all and is surely a wake up call to make the most of each moment of our unpredictable existence, and to focus on the simple beauty and blessings of everyday life. That’s certainly our New Year’s resolution.

On a happier note - the wonderful Argentine Tango teacher from New York / Buenos Aires, NEY MELO is visiting Sydney in February!

He is among the best of the new generation of Argentine Tango dancers. His close-embrace Tango style mixes traditional and Nuevo Tango. His style could best be described as “Nuevo Milonguero”, because he likes to experiment and play with space whilst in the close embrace (our preferred way to tango).

He’s also a great communicator and enthusiastic teacher. Ney studied in Buenos Aires and was influenced early on by Roberto Herrera (posture, walk, elegance), Chicho Frumboli (musicality) and Mingo Pugliese (structure of Tango).

“There will never be a step, sequence or trick in Tango that will come close to matching the power of the embrace.”  - Ney Melo

Ney will be in Sydney from 1 - 8 February and we’re thrilled that he will perform at our Rose Bay Saturday Milonga on 5th February! (Cover charge $15)

He’ll be conducting 5 workshops that weekend and is also available for private lessons during his stay in Sydney (2 - 7 February).

34 PUÑALADAS
16 February at The Basement
www.thebasement.com.au

This is arguably the hottest act in today’s international Tango scene. The Argentine quintet 34 Puñaladas has taken the world by storm and are now set to do the same in Sydney.

Take a trip back to the Port of Buenos Aires of the 1920’s and ‘30’s with Tangos that were never recorded or sung in public at the time due to the un-PC lyrics of loose women, the underworld, prohibited passions and various addictions. HOT!

We’ll be giving away as lucky door prizes two double passes to the 34 Puñaladas at our Rose Bay Milonga on Saturday 29 January!

Best selling novelist Belinda Alexandra.

Argentine Tango certainly attracts some fascinating and talented people, one being the bestselling novelist Belinda Alexandra who started learning Tango with PATIO de TANGO to assist with the writing of WILD LAVENDER.

This hard to put down novel, recently released by HarperCollins, moves from the backstreets of Marseilles to the grand music theatres of Paris, from the countryside of Provence, to decadent pre-war Berlin and Jazz-age New York and it contains some tango dancing! Belinda has also written the bestselling WHITE GARDENIA and THE SCENT OF LAVENDER.

“Thank you for creating a wonderful atmosphere in which to learn the Tango. My dance partner and I love the way you convey the elegance and mood of the dance, and we enjoy ourselves so much that at the end of each lesson we could go on dancing all night."

-  RECENT HIGHLIGHTS  -

New Years Eve Masquerade Ball Milonga - Botany 31/12/04

What a sparkly and festive night! Victor Valdes charmed us with his exquisite harp melodies… we danced… the clock struck midnight and the champagne flowed as we danced to a grand backdrop of fireworks.

And the statuesque croquembouche cake from the Croquembouche Patisserie was to die for!

And what a pleasure to put on a Tango show with the combined talents of Tony Leonie, Freda Kotlyar, Edgard Alvarez and Kirja Parcell. Thank you to everyone who made this night such a success.

Until we dance, un abrazo tanguero. . .
