We have lots of news this month - with some exciting events ahead and a new venue for our tango classes in the city!

PATIO de TANGO aims to feature a special musical or dance performance at each of its Saturday Milongas to support musicians and dancers whose performances have a passionate and authentic quality. As well as offering a rich cultural experience for our students and Sydney's tangueros, we wish to introduce new people to the beauty and fun of social Argentine Tango.

We were delighted to start our Saturday Milonga series with the breathtaking Victor Valdes; and we have a smorgasbord of amazing shows to come. . .

Take note of these 2004 Saturday Milonga dates:  6 March  -  3 April  -29 May  -  31 July  -  4 September  -  30 October  -  4 December

A night for DANCING!!! As well as some fabulous tango music, you can enjoy the infectious rhythms of live Latin music by BANDA-LĒ!

Tangos, valses, milongas, boleros, merengues, corridos and sambas – they’ll all be there!

BANDA-LĒ is led by Jorge Sabag, a versatile singer and musician who is well-known and respected in the Latin scene. Jorge, who was born in the tropics of Bolivia and raised in the Brazilian Amazon, invites you to share his passion for Latin music.              - Entry: $18 -

BANDA-LĒ will play two 15 min sets around 9pm & 11pm.

We're letting you know in advance that we've just booked some fabulous musicians for our Saturday Milonga in April. You'll find out who they are in our March Newsletter or see our website after 6 March.

3) Victor Valdes enchants . . .

What a night it was - our Saturday Milonga in January !!!! We've had so many rave reviews about Victor's magical performance. And what an unexpected treat to hear him play a tango on the Mexican harp. Victor had the floor packed with tango dancers! Let us know if you'd like him back in the future. . . It can be arranged!

4) Tuesday Milongas - now until 10:45pm!

Due to popular demand, our Tuesday Milongas at the Rose Bay RSL now run from 7:30pm - 10:45pm. It was great to see so many new people at the Milonga last Tuesday and well done to the Beginners II students who stayed on to tango!

We've moved our WEDNESDAY classes (formerly at Spanish Terrazas) across the road to a bigger venue! From 11 February onward we're teaching and tangoing every Wednesday at. . .

We're sure you'll love 'La Campana', which is a landmark in the Latin entertainment scene. It has a great chef from Argentina and the staff love Tango!

The $7 all night parking deal at 'Cinema City car park' is available by endorsing your ticket at the restaurant.

We'd like to thank our friends Maria and Luis and the staff of the lovely 'Spanish Terrazas' for their support over the year.

We really enjoyed our time at Terrazas (and its delicious fish soups!). After the classes our students would often join us for a drink or a meal and tango on. Many in the restaurant were initiated into tango in this way! And we had tangueros from all over the world who would drop in for a chat and a dance.

We're sure this will continue at 'La Campana' and we invite Sydney tangueros to be part of it.                                                                  [top of page]

Beginners I - Sydney City (now at 'La Campana' Restaurant):

Note: Entry into Beginners I for complete beginners is closed after the 2nd week (i.e. from lesson 3 onwards). People with some prior training may be allowed to enter at a later stage - numbers and gender balance permitting.

7) BEGINNERS II - 6 week tango courses

TUESDAYS

Beginners II at Rose Bay RSL:

3 February - 9 March,  23 March - 27 April

Beginners II is our “Bridge to Intermediate” course. It covers “giros” & turns, with more on Tango combinations, musicality, connection & navigation. It introduces the dances of Argentine Vals & Milonga - all essential dances for anyone wanting to dance Tango socially.

Note: Entry into Beginners II after it has started may be possible, depending on your skill level - please contact us to discuss.

8) INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED Classes

Classes are always held straight after our Beginners I courses from 8pm - 9.30pm at La Campana (city) and Bondi Beach Pavilion. They're held on a casual drop-in basis.
