"If he can dance in harmony with his
partner then he is an excellent dancer."
- Pablo Veron

IT SEEMS LIKE ONLY
YESTERDAY that Roberto Herrera and Tamara Bisceglia were in
Sydney. It was wonderful to have them here, and as well as offering some
great workshops and performances, they were great fun at our Milongas,
both dancing with many of the local aficionados, which was a treat for
those involved! We wish them every success in their Tango travels.
 Scenes from Roberto and
Tamara’s workshops.
"Many thanks for the
highly enthusiastic and valuable week with Roberto and Tamara… A time to
remember and build upon!" -
Nick Ilea
Thanks to everyone
who turned up to the Outdoor Milonga at Kellett Place in Kings Cross on
Sunday 26th November. It was a fabulous night, which attracted a great
turn-out of enthusiastic dancers and spectators. Many thanks to the
people who performed with us on the night: Antonio Gomez (Tango singer
from Buenos Aires) Ingo Michehl (flautist & composer from Munich) and
dancers -Nelson (Uruguay) and Sarita Alvarez (Argentina), Craig Petersen
(from Sydney) and his partner Jane (Brisbane).

Arianne & Carmello |
...from prime time TV lately. Channel 9’s A Current Affair
included a segment of Sophia and Pedro tangoing (on a segment about “the
sexiest jobs”).
Channel 7’s contestants Arianne Caoilli and Carmelo Pizzino
approached us for assistance with their Tango routine for the Semi
Finals. We were given just 4
hours to train them how to tango and to choreograph their routine. They
were lovely to work with; and when they won their round we were thrilled
indeed. They came second in the Grand Finals. Well done Carmello and
Arianne!

minute DVD of the Tango Championship, filmed by our own cinematographer,
Paul Warren is now available for only $20. I have a limited supply so

"The Sunday Practica at 'Step-Up Dance Studio' was fantastic. It was
the perfect opportunity to practice everything I had learned i the
classes in a relaxed atmosphere. The social aspect is great, being able
to meet dancers from other classes and dance with them, as well as chat
and hang out! The studio is beautiful and really feels like the perfect
place to tango in; especially when the lights went down at nine! The
floor was a dream… I could have danced all night!"

Better TiMes
in Buenos Aires
by
Robyn Ash-Rose
An Australian Tanguera’s take on the Tango
Scene of Buenos Aires...
"By 8pm
constant dancing on a slow, painted floor has worn out my ankles, so
I’m more than happy to go to the other vast hall where the local
Buenos Aires Finals are to be held, late as always. We sit on wooden
steps towards the back of a huge agricultural exhibition building,
where the faint odour of livestock is mercifully not masked by tobacco
smoke, as at La Rural smoking is forbidden.
Seven high profile
teachers file in to be judges, before nine couples dressed to kill,
dance three very different tangos, from D’Arienzo to Pugliese. My view
is constantly blocked by the comings and goings of locals looking for
seats or perhaps just too bored to sit still. I decide that tango
salon has never been a spectator sport, then ten days later I see the
winners and change my mind. Their passion and brilliant footwork
convince me. The flowing white gown does not hide the touching
presence of a tiny third participant, adding another and unexpected
sensual dimension! Didn't the winner two years ago say that he'd
learnt tango in his mother's womb?
On the final night I
also change my mind about show tango starting to all look the same, as
it must when one too many couples tries to outdo the rest, yet again
to orchestra Color Tango. I can well imagine the sigh of relief heaved
by seven esteemed judges, when out of left field comes a vibrant young
couple from Colombia, choosing music bursting with life and fun, that
of unlikely choice Canaro, beloved of milonguero style dancers. Even
their entrance is different, as three times they hold their starting
pose, and three times the music won’t play. When it does, their
charming choreography bordering the comical, wins all hearts for zest
and originality, and more than any other routine makes the music
visible. When they crouch to imitate waddling ducks, show tango
changes for ever."
