What an inspiring past month – with the arrival of Tango maestro Roberto Herrera
and his partner Rocio Leguizamon. You can read more about these great people and the amazing experience of their workshops and
performances (it felt like a Mini Tango Festival!)
We celebrated our 4th Birthday on 5th November with a huge chocolate cake and lots of tangoing
at our Rose Bay Milonga. And we danced at Jan Rae’s beautiful Tango Art Exhibition on 1/12/05.
Find out more about these events in the Recent Highlights section below which includes some
great pictures.
Our upcoming events are the Christmas Milonga on 18/12/05 at the
El Beso Tango Bar and the Boxing Day Milonga on 26/12/05 at the Annandale Public School.
During December and January you can Tango every Tuesday in Rose Bay and we have a
Tango Summer School starting 13/12/05.
There’s a very cute Tango animated movie to enjoy as well (see link below) and
a great story from musicians Moshlo and Carla of Tango Paradiso.
And check out our Christmas Bazaar for some great Christmas gift ideas.
We warmly thank everyone who has supported our school and events over this year and we look
forward to tangoing more with you over the festive season and into 2006.

THE ADVENTURES OF TANGO PARADISO
IN BUENOS AIRES
“Last Saturday Carla and I had a wonderful experience performing solo with
Diego Alvaro and Zoraida Fonteclara at a major Tango festival held by Pulpo.
For a week there had been workshops by many notable teachers in B.A. and
Saturday was the Gala closing night ceremony. It was held in one of those magnificent old buildings whose flavour and atmosphere
had reached a haunting perfection through layers of decay and tarnish.
Diego and Zoraida had listened to our CD and invited us to perform as a duo for their
solo performance that night. I had suggested the beautiful Tango 'Boedo by De Caro', and during the week we worked together in their studio to
create an appropriate piece for the evening. There were going to be solo performances by all the teachers including Pulpo, all to recorded music,
but ours was going to be the only live backing.
During the beautiful slow melody, I walked onto centre stage to join Diego and
Zoraida. Since Diego and I are bald, Zoraida made the most of this opportunity to make eyes at both of us and perform a teasing and humorous
dance around us.
In the meantime of course, Diego was eyeing off Carla, a sort of Tango foursome.
The audience loved its light hearted and witty feeling. It was so much fun to perform, and we played it to the hilt. We felt a glow of joy at being
given the opportunity to communicate our art and passion to the audience and to feel so appreciated and 'at home' with the Tango community
here.” |
RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
4th Anniversary Milonga, 5/11/05, Rose Bay RSL
We had a great turn-out for our 4th Birthday celebration. It was a really fun night.
"Thank you so much
for welcoming us and such a good time at your 4th birthday celebrations. We enjoyed the opportunity to dance with others who are in
love with Tango as we are." - Patricia Gaykema, Canberra |
Roberto Herrera Workshops 25 - 30/11/05
Rocio exemplifies the elegance and style of an Argentine tanguera and is a talented teacher
and exquisite dancer. Roberto is a charming and generous soul, a dedicated teacher and mesmerising performer. We really enjoyed the
opportunity to spend time with these great people. During their stay they ran 7 excellent workshops and gave 2 performances at our city Tango Bar
and Rose Bay Milonga.
The workshops attracted a high turnout and included people from Melbourne, Canberra,
Brisbane and Auckland. We thank everyone who participated in the event and behind the scenes, local tangueros, our interstate visitors and
Cecilia Bale (organiser of NZ Tango Congress).
Some great memories . . .
