"When someone begins he can be dazzled by things that are external; the things of Tango are internal… A dancer arrives at the roots of the Tango when he falls in love…” - Eduardo Arquimba

We’re still on a high after the Milonga Para Los Niños, which raised $5000 for Sociedad Para Los Niños Inc., attracted record crowds to Rose Bay (230 people) and debuted the phenomenon of “taxi dancing” with great success ! You’ll find photos and details of the event’s many sponsors and supporters at the end of this newsletter. Donations are still invited... for more on the charity see www.paralosninos.net

Rose Bay 12/7/05: From left to right: Hanibal Land, Gachi Fernandez, Fernando Bolpilar, Pedro and Sophia, Pecky Zoghby, Sergio Cortazzo, Jacqeline Simp

We were delighted to have Gachi Fernandez, Sergio Cortazzo, Fabrizio Forte, Mariana Dragone and Pecky Zoghby and company drop in for a social dance in Rose Bay in July.

And how exciting was the Australian Tango Championship! It really energised the Tango community.

There’s definitely “Tango fever” in the air. Seen by the growing numbers of people wanting to learn Tango and new people turning up to Milongas. As well as appreciating the intrinsic beauty of the dance, many people are realising that it’s a great social activity, a very pleasant way to meet new people, to exercise, unwind, meditate (Tango can be described as “a moving meditation) and bliss out to some fabulous music. So if you haven’t tried it yet, what are you waiting for ? !

We also have tickets to the Dancexpo to give away and you could win a ticket to Buenos Aires at our Milongas! Read on for more . . .

Gachi and Sergio in Rose Bay 12/7/05

The Championship Finals on 17 July at the Sydney Opera House were a grand event generating a lot of excitement and enthusiasm within the Sydney Tango community. Over 50 couples from across Australia competed in the event !

The Stage Tango winners were Fabio Robles and Ana Andre from Melbourne. The winners of the Salon category were Barry Arnold and Anne Harkin from Perth.

Congratulations to the winners, everyone who participated and the organizers - Susan Hargrave, Sharyn Minahin and the Argentine Consul, Pedro Colombi.

And thank you to Gachi and Sergio who gave us an astonishingly beautiful Tango show, which received a well-deserved standing ovation. The dynamism, fluidity and precision of their performance was spell-binding.

You could win one return airfare between Sydney and Buenos Aires flying with Aerolineas Argentinas. $10 raffle tickets are sold on behalf of the 2005 Australian Regional Tango Championship organizers - a not for profit cultural event. All proceeds will go towards the high costs of running the event. The raffle will be drawn at our PATIO de TANGO Milonga in Rose Bay on Saturday, 3 September.

THE LIBERTANGO TRIO
- regulars at our Rose Bay Milongas

Eddie Bronson was busking at Circular Quay when his path crossed that of Nadia Fried, on her way to play a gig on a cruise boat. That fateful meeting two years ago was the birth of the Libertango Trio… with Fried on piano, Bronson on button accordion and Anatoli Torjinskion on cello.

“We are trying to create… a live Tango scene, Bronson, member of ARIA award wining band Monsieur Camembert, said. “We really try to work from the angle of playing danceable Tango.” Fried said: “Tango has the romance of the music and the energy of the dance.” - Excerpt from the Wentworth Courier article “Rhythm of Romance” (22/6/05)

The Libertango Trio will perform again at our weekly Tuesday Milonga in Rose Bay on 16 August !
